It’s raining and gloomy outside (the first real rain in months) and so to lighten my spirits, I’m posting some summery nails taken sometime last month. I know lots of people love fall and I love it too for the food aspect (pumpkin spice, apples, etc) and lovely warm colors but fall where I live is when it starts raining again, so I’m still chasing summer because summers here are just t0o darned short.

Revlon Just Tinted in Desire is a juicy jelly watermelon pink. I used 3 coats here with one coat of OPI’s I Lily Love You, a glitter polish in a clear pink jelly base. I left my pinky finger un-glittered to show the jelly-ness of the polish.

Glitter Gal 3D Holographic Nail Polish in Silver

Isn’t this silver amazing? I used no topcoat here (3 coats), taken in full Seattle sunlight during Labor Day. I don’t own GOSH Holographic nor Chanel Holographic but based on pictures, I think this version is on par with them. I have Nfu Oh 61 which is similar to this one but Glitter Gal has a “chunkier” (though linear) holo. I will post that one soon.

Fall is officially here but I still have some summer nails that need to be posted.

Fimo Nails (featuring Color Club Strawberry Candle) !

This is my first attempt using Fimo 3D nail art to do something fun to my nails. I ordered a batch of 100 Fimo clay sticks from amazon and cut them up myself. As you can see in the pictures (clickable!) that some slices are thicker than others. It’s kinda tricky to get them super thin each and every time; I actually wasted some slices but in the bundle of sticks I received, there were some designs that weren’t as cute as the others so I used them as practice.

Isn’t the My Melody piece cute? I got some Hello Kitty sticks in my batch but sad that I didn’t get any cute bows!

For the polish, I used 3 coats of Color Club Japanese Glitter in Strawberry Candle and 2 coats of Poshé top coat.

Good Eye Might

It’s pretty clear I love Vegemite. Sad thing is that it’s hard to find here (Marmite, which is also good, is readily available here) so I have to get it imported as gifts from overseas. Luckily I have enough to last me a while.

The first time I tried it was back in 1999 and I found it to be quite disgusting but a few years ago I had an itching to re-try it and I fell in love.

My favorite way to eat it is spreading it on a grilled cheese sandwich. I make the grilled cheese as normal then I spread a nice layer over one side of the sandwich. I can’t eat grilled cheeses without it now.

Eyeko Coral Polish is a vibrant red-based coral. I’ve read on another nail blog that it looks similar to Essie “Peach Daiquiri” but I disagree. Essie’s much more orange than Eyeko. I personally think it’s closer to Essie “Geranium” since it’s also a red-based coral.

My Birthday Nails! Deborah Lippmann “Candy Shop”

Happy Birthday to me! My birthday was yesterday and what better way to celebrate another year than by painting my nails a festive shade? This is Deborah Lippmann “Candy Shop”, aka Happy Birthday glitter suspended in a jelly pink base. It looks like cupcakes or funfetti cake or party confetti, doesn’t it? I love it.

PS: Nothing rhymes with “thirty-one”. I mean, when I turned 30, it was fun to say “dirty thirty” but now what?

New Glitter Gal shades! Lizard Belly and Light as a Feather

Light as a Feather – a soft white holo. The linear holo isn’t quite strong but the color is just lovely and unique. It actually leans toward a very pale gray.

Lizard Belly is a blackened deep forest green that has some teal undertones. It is simply gorgeous! I have a couple black holos (the original OPI My Private Jet and Color Club Revvvolution) and while they are pretty, this green one is just so unusual and unexpected. It’s my favorite out of the two colors.

Zoya Malia

Zoya Malia is a lovely deep lilac creme polish with a buttery smooth formula that I’ve come to associate with Zoya polishes (because of this, they’re becoming my favorite brand). It’s a shade deeper than Eyeko Lilac polish as you can see so they’re similar enough that you can probably be happy just owning one or the other but for nail junkies like me, you want them all.

PS: I’m jealous that Zoya doesn’t have a polish with my name (yet?). The closest is “Kristi” (my name without the “n” at the end) but that’s not my name at all. No “Kris” or “Kristine” either. Not even my middle name, Karen. My sister and my mom both have their Zoya namesake colors, in fact Malia is my mom’s name, just the Hawaiian spelling of it (luckily for her, Zoya has a “Maria” too).

Glitter Gal 3D Holographic in Blue

Glitter Gal hails from Australia and they make some of the most beautiful holo polishes out there. I am mesmerized by this blue color. It’s so beachy, summery and best of all, has strong rainbows in them. The formula was a dream too (unlike the Nfu Oh holos); very smooth and full coverage in 2 coats. I’m using a topcoat here, though I can’t remember which one (probably Color Club Vivid).

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Pink-y Ring

Picked up this color last week while browsing around the nail polish section at the grocery store because I don’t own a magenta colored glitter polish. This color is part of the new Xtreme Wear collection that is currently on display at stores.

It’s gorgeous isn’t it? So shiny and vibrant and girly!

BUUUUUUUT, this was one of the WORST formulas ever. The glitter was ever-so-sparse on the brush and each stroke only deposited about 10 glitter flecks so imagine how many layers it took to achieve a semi-dense coating of sparkles on my nails. I lost count after 6, I think! You can definitely tell I had to pile it on because of how thick and acrylic-y my nails look. Because the formula is so thin, I couldn’t possibly wear it on its own so I layered it over Nina Ultra Pro in Punki Purple and used Revlon Quick Dry topcoat (which shows a little tip-pull if you enlarge the pictures).

Was it worth all that trouble? Not really. In fact when I was done painting my nails, I finished about 1/4th of the bottle–and that’s after my first (and only) time using it!
